HILLSDALE — Bill and Jane Nash started Nash Drugs in 1974. Wednesday afternoon, Nash Drugs celebrated 40 years at their area locations with lunch and an ice cream social. Lunch was provided free to customers behind their downtown Hillsdale and Jonesville locations, and an ice cream social was provided at the Hillsdale Market Pharmacy. The lunches were catered by Butler’s Hot Dogs of Allen and Saucy Dogs of Jonesville.

Rick Searfoss has been a pharmacist at Nash Drugs for 27 years and said people make working at Nash Drugs great. “I’ve enjoyed working in Hillsdale,” said Searfoss. “People have watched my kids grow up and I’ve watched theirs. It’s so important to know our customers.” Searfoss emphasized the importance of the relationship between the customer and their pharmacists. “There’s a mutual appreciation for local business,” said Searfoss. “We’re maintaining the feeling of a small-town pharmacy. We offer as much as we can and try to be competitive.”

Searfoss said Bill and Jane Nash made Hillsdale their hometown when they started Nash Drugs. “Even though they’re not with us, we try to continue that,” he said. “It’s nice when you come in the morning and know your customers,” Searfoss added. “That’s why I went into the field.”
